Vinegar Cleaning

Natural, non-toxic and versatile, vinegar is one of the greatest cleaning products out there, and probably the cheapest ever.

What can you clean with vinegar? Well, the list could be long. But, for the most popular items:

  • Diswasher / refrigerator / Microwave
  • Carpet
  • Toilet Bowl
  • Sticky stuff
  • Windows / Mirrors
  • Shower Head
  • Towels
  • Vinyl auto interior
  • Reusable shopping bags
  • And so much more!

However, do not use vinegar for cleaning everything. Especially do not use vinegar for cleaning:

  • Granite
  • Marble
  • Soapstone countertops.

Why? Because vinegar is an acid, albeit a very soft one, and acid don’t do well with natural stones.
Also, avoid cleaning solid wood furniture with vinegar, or at least not with undiluted vinegar, again because of acid.

Some vinegar cleaning tips

Removing stickers from new products

After you removed what you could of the sticker, simply apply some white vinegar on the remaining sticky area, let it sit for maybe 5 minutes, then remove it all away, easily.

Clean dishwasher, kettle, coffee pot

Add a cup of vinegar to the appliance, let it sit, and run a full cycle through that appliance. Then dump the vinegar, and voilà!

Microwave

Add egal parts of water and white vinegar in a cup, microwave it for about 4 minutes. Then wipe the inside of the microwave clean with a microfiber cloth.

Fabric Refresheners

Put equal parts of water and white vinegar to a spray bottle, and spray that instead on your fabric, like furniture, etc., to refresh them the cheap and efficient way. It will refresh the odours, and the vinegar smell will disappear in minutes.

Clean Bathroom Accessories

Fill the sink with equal parts of vinegar and water, soak the objects in, like razor blades, body sponges, etc., for about an hour, then rinse and dry.

Laundry Softener

Add a half cup of white vinegar in the softener dispenser of your washing machine. The acid of the vinegar will reduce static of the fabric. It will also help soften, brighten the fabric. And don’t worry: it will make everything smell fresh, not vinegar!

Which vinegar to use for cleaning?

White distilled vinegar is the very best. Some of the other types of vinegar, like cooking vinegar, might not be so great for cleaning. So go with white distilled vinegar, save money and help the planet!
